Augmented Reality App Almost Real

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

IconI have just submitted my latest App to the Apple iTunes App Store for approval.

Made exclusively for iPhone (OS 3.1.x), PointOfView leverages your device’s onboard video camera against its extensive mapping capabilities—the result: immediate distance calculations that are generated as fast as you can touch the screen. Furthermore, PointOfView also provides you with the street address that is closest to your touch.

PointOfView layers distance, address information, location coordinates, and a map overlay on top of your iphone video display. The result is an augmented reality experience that will help you get from here to there.

Finally, adding just a little more reality to this augmentation, a speech synthesis function reads the distance measurement to you–continually updated as you travel towards/away from your selected destination.

PointOfView will be available from the App Store for $.99.

TrustedAgent Power User Tip

Friday, June 5th, 2009

trustedagent3By now, you know that TrustedAgent is a useful PIN/password generator. For whatever reasons (e.g., password is too long, the PIN is too short, etc.), what if you don’t like the generated password? Simply toggle the same password switch (e.g., numeric, alphabetic or alphanumeric) (i.e., touch the switch from ON to OFF to ON, again) and a new password will be created. Still don’t like the supplied password? Repeat the switch toggling until you get a satisfactory result.

New iTunes Security Enhances TrustedAgent

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

picture-2Inside Apple iTunes 8.2 there is a new security option for backing up your Apps. Although this new feature is not explicitly mentioned on the iTunes “What’s New” Web site, you can find it when you connect your device (e.g., iPhone and iPod touch) to your computer.

Select your device on the iTunes sidebar and click on the Summary tab.

Underneath the “Manually manage music and videos” option is a new option:picture-11

“Encrypt iPod backup” [When you select this option a popup window will request the entry of a password (HA, good thing you've download my TrustedAgent App!). You can then remember this password in your Keychain.]

Using this new option is a great way to safeguard your TrustedAgent password file. This file is automatically archived on your computer during device sync.

TrustedAgent does NOT encrypt PINs or passwords that are stored on your iPhone and iPod touch device. Remember, PINs and passwords are only as good as the security measures that YOU use to safeguard them.
